Incredible to believe, yet true for a growing number of viewers, Summer has become a sympathetic character. Y&R’s wise pull-back of King’s alter ego fits better historically and helps current storylines moving forward.
Kyle loves Lola and Miss Rosales loves Mr. Abbott. Phyllis is fully right about that. However, her plan to take Summer out of town on a two-day spa jaunt in order to test Kyle’s loyalty was questionable, if not outright dishonest.
This conclusion isn’t harsh, as it’s informed by Phyllis’ hire who will keep an eye on Kola when both ladies are being pampered. Summer is actually being distracted and Kyle has been set up, though ‘Skyle’ doesn’t realize what’s going on yet.
Even though this triangle is young, Summer, Kyle, and Lola are old enough to make adult decisions about their lives. Phyllis is injecting herself in this matter because she cares about her daughter, no question. It’s also fair to assert that Tognoni’s concerned character has extra time on her hands, professionally and personally.
Lola was told the truth about ‘Skyle’ in stereo. First, Phyllis had a heart-to-heart with her at Crimson Lights, where Summer’s mother surprisingly said that Kyle loves her, meaning Lola. Then, Mia Rosales (Noemi Gonzalez) told her momentary sister-in-law, at the same setting, that she needs to fight for Kyle by not letting Summer have him.
Prior to Mia’s mistaken attack against Lola, Kola was breaking up or was taking a break. The exactness of their relationship at that time didn’t matter after Lola fell in the pool and into a coma, which created the need for her liver transplant.
Summer’s match to Lola did more than further transplant surgery. It swapped out Kola for Skyle in one soapy strike.
Whether Summer is already pregnant, or Lola becomes pregnant (or both ladies deliver Kyle’s children, as some buzz projects), Phyllis plans to confirm Mr. Abbott’s true feelings and then, likely, provide evidence to Summer. Assuming that happens, this couple’s script could flip again.
Gonzalez’ departure from the cast has been announced, so Mia’s baby’s birth will likely happen off-camera. Neither King nor Lola is known to be leaving the cast. So Summer and Lola’s intertwined story will continue, with or without the expectations of Kyle becoming a father.
