‘Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Nick’s Desperation Dooms Him – Can’t Find A Way Back To Sharon

Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) isn’t and will never be Sharon (Sharon Case) on ‘Young and the Restless‘. But Nick (Joshua Morrow) appears incapable of realizing that and has played the fool by reverting to ‘Phick’ the soapy sequel.

Consider the stark differences between ‘Shick’s’ wonderful children, Noah (Robert Adamson) and Faith (Alyvia Alyn Lind) and ‘Phick’s’, meaning the one and thankfully only Summer (Hunter King). Noah and Faith are loving and real. Summer used to be a good kid. Today, she’s heck on wheels. A mini-me knocks off of Phyllis’s scheming and Nick’s narcissism.

Desperation. That has to be the reason why Nick cavorted with Phyllis last summer, which then served to permanently upend ‘Shick’. Although, Mr. Newman’s lack of impulse control is made all the worse by Phyllis’ purposeful allure, which, to be honest, remains strong.

For her part, Phyllis seems to somehow not know that she’s Nick’s second choice. That was true in the mid-2000s when this character looked like Michelle Stafford. It’s also apparent now, since the house today’s ‘Phick’, which includes Tognoni, is living in was obtained by Nick with Sharon in mind.

Sharon was Nick’s true love and still is. That infinitely important point was again confirmed when Nick was shown repeatedly daydreaming about Sharon after their latest attempt at remarriage fell apart in October.

Case’s forever star-crossed character played the victim in this couple’s most recent remarriage fail. Unlike 2014, when Summer’s paternity secret came out, Phyllis was cast as the femme fatale. Her fated role seems certain to keep repeating, even if ‘Phick’ were to again drift apart.

Sharon made a chilling point recently. She said that Phyllis brings out an element in Nick that can’t be denied. The implication was that she draws out his darker side.

Yes, Phyllis isn’t responsible for Nick’s foolish choice to restart ‘Phick’. His desperate attempts to fill the Sharon void dooms him, maybe forever. But through it all, be it way back when, or now, Nick is controlling Nick.
