Jack (Peter Bergman) and Billy (Jason Thompson) bit their tongues when Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) took over as head of Jabot on The Young and the Restless. Now, as a result of her immunity deal with Christine (Lauralee Bell), the Abbott brothers sense an opportunity to reclaim the company their father John (Jerry Douglas) founded.
Phyllis’ elevation to Chief Executive Officer was improbable, as Lauren (Tracey Bregman) was infinitely better suited to take the lead at the company she had partnered Fenmore’s with. Exactly how was the revived Red the most qualified to sit in the main office?
Besides writing of Tognoni’s character back to villain status, she seemingly wasn’t. However, it would be unwise to count her out entirely, not matter what takes place within the next few weeks.
The rub for the Abbott boys will be pulling power away from Phyllis, as she doesn’t plan on relinquishing it. That makes Beth Maitland’s (Traci) upcoming return to Genoa City intriguing, assuming her Board of Director’s vote will be needed.
Lauren’s position on this matter will prove key, as Phyllis obviously said nothing to her boss and prominent Jabot CEO supporter about her entanglement in the J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) matter. Y&R fans would think that Phyllis’ longtime friend will feel betrayed, therefore likely making her opposed to the status quo.

Let’s assume the above predicament is resolved in Jack and Billy’s favor. At that point, which brother takes over?
Jack’s many runs as his father’s successor weren’t all smooth. In recent times, Billy’s move into the top spot led to the Las Vegas gambling issue. That was when Phyllis tried to save Billy from himself, but failed.
Billy’s Jaboat (one of the funnier nicknames offered in a while) money problem led to a misguided embezzlement scheme that resulted in Phyllis taking over. She hasn’t been shown at the office much in recent weeks. But her position has suddenly reemerged as a bright storyline focal point.
It could be that the brother’s Abbott again miscalculate, with their assumptions of restored grandeur, for either party, enabling another surprise CEO. But the better plot play would seem to be having either Jack or Billy return to the big chair and resulting sibling battles waged.
