Young And The Restless Remember When? Victor Newman’s First Dirty Deed, Done Dirt Cheap

If you think Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) dirty deeds only began in the last decade or two, you’d be dead wrong. His take-no-prisoners attitude developed early on and one of his first despicable acts was locking up his wife’s lover in a bomb shelter under Newman Ranch and feeding him a dead rat for dinner!

The great Victor Newman, otherwise known as The Mustache, arrived in Genoa City with his wife Julia (Meg Bennett) in 1980. The two argued often, but eventually, Julia told Victor she was committed to their marriage and wanted to have his baby. He responded by secretly having a vasectomy. And even though Victor had cheated on Julia over the years, he was furious when Julia herself took a lover.

Michael Scott (Nicholas Benedict) was a photographer who offered Julia a modeling job. The two were close friends who eventually slept together. When Julia would talk to Victor about her “friend” Michael, Victor became jealous and started stalking them and recording their conversations. Then Julia told Victor she was pregnant, and he was sure the child was Michael’s, so he put a revenge plan into action.

One day when Julia wasn’t home, Victor invited Michael over to Newman Ranch, overpowered him and locked him in his bomb shelter. Victor barely fed Michael (and one night, he was served a particularly gruesome dead rat for dinner) and mocked him constantly. He even put a camera in his bedroom and set up a monitor in the bomb shelter, so Michael could watch him and Julia in bed together.

Michael’s imprisonment went on for weeks and Victor hired Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) to feed the photographer when he had to go out of town on business. Victor told Paul that Michael was a violent, mentally unstable relative who could not be let out of his house and Paul believed him.

When Julia found out her husband was holding Michael hostage, she and Paul rushed to free him. Victor would have none of it and tried to stop them. Julia fell down some stairs and had a miscarriage. Victor then learned that even though he’d had a vasectomy, he had been the father of Julia’s child. Shortly afterward, Julia left town alone.

Victor was never arrested for locking Michael in his basement, the first in a long list of dirty deeds The Mustache has committed, and gotten away with, over the years.
