Sharon is now being paired with Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso), which has been teased for months. Rebekah Barlow (Jennifer Taylor), a recent side character, returns to become Nick’s latest romantic interest. Shey and a potential Nekah, or Rick if one prefers, will seemingly smash any hopes for Shick.
Hardcore fans know that Sharon and Nick got back together five years ago and almost remarried. They were standing at the altar in 2014 when the newly recast Phyllis Summers (Gina Tognoni) burst into the church. She shocked the crowd with her spill about Sharon having lied about Summer Newman’s (Hunter King) paternity. And hopes for Shick’s realized reunion were over.
Digitally skip ahead four years to the fall of 2018. Sharon and Nick are standing at the altar again. Devoted viewers knew this remarriage was doomed from the moment Phyllis and Nick impulsed into Phick. They also saw the script-flip coming, as Sharon followed through with her plan and outed what her fiance and nemesis did. Again, that was that.
Let’s step back from those plots, as the Sharon-Nick-Phyllis triangle only served as the plot vehicle that’s been used to stop Shick from reforming. It makes sense, in that Phyllis (as then played by Michelle Stafford) became the wedge character that split Sharon and Nick after Cassie’s (Camryn Grimes) tragic demise.
But is the Sharon-Phyllis battle the reason why Sharon and Nick can’t ever seem to get back together? Sharon feels, deep inside, that Nick won’t remain fully committed to her, while Nick also has repressed issues about Sharon having betrayed his trust via the Summer and Christian (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) paternity issues? Maybe.
There’s no evidence or even rumors of Case and Morrow not wanting to work together. So, actor antipathy isn’t logically the reason that their alter egos haven’t gotten remarried.
Possibly, the thought of repairing this specific couple isn’t seen as dramatically worthwhile? But soaps are famous for finding ways to inject freshness into retro duos.
A series of supervising and executive producers, along with head writers have decided, for the past 14 years, that Sharon and Nick won’t fully reconcile and remarry. This feeling is apparently held by Y&R’s newest leadership team. But why?
Fans of ‘The Young and the Restless’ rightfully express their opinions on a regular basis. So, why does Y&R keep Sharon and Nick apart? Do you think they will ever bring back Shick? Please vote in our poll below!
