As of now, Kola is over on the Young and the Restless. Even though Skyle just completed a legal process that was intended to bind Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Summer Newman (Hunter King) to each other for a year, that doesn’t necessarily mean Summer and Kyle will remain linked for good. Assuming a split, will Kola then rebound?

It would seem hard to imagine that Y&R’s new decision-makers would choose not to revisit one of the show’s more, if not most, likable couples. Many new soap pairings enjoy a honeymoon period with the fans, with’Kola surely having enjoyed cheers from a sizable audience contingent.

There was everything to like about Kyle maturing, in having fallen in love with a young lady who was new in town. Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle) is a down-to-earth individual whose entrepreneurial spirit plays off the Genoa City economic system. There are no guarantees of success, but ingenuity and applied hard work creates opportunities for progress and independence.

Summer came to represent negativity after King’s rewritten character was devolved into a me-first person. Her most recent scheme, agreeing to give one-half of her liver to Lola in exchange for Kyle’s wedding ring, topped past actions as the most diabolical. Yet, Mr. Abbott felt compelled to go along with it because of how he feels about Lola.

It’s debatable as to whether Kyle should have told Lola the truth, being that Summer was the liver donor and that he married her. Lola’s pained reaction was natural, but surely not beneficial to her recovery.

The complications that Summer developed through the organ donation injects a new wrinkle into the Skyle-Kola battle. And make no mistake, this deeply personal skirmish rages on regardless of the recent surgery.

Lola and Kyle clearly love each other. Summer loves Kyle, or is fixated upon him, based upon one’s perception. What develops inside this still-existing triangle remains to be seen in daytime.
