Doug Davidson, also known for his alter ego Paul Williams, is nothing but grateful for all the support and well wishes he had received when he returned to the Young and The Restless. The responses from fans and all the other viewers of the soap were truly heart-warming.
He recalled some of his fans saying: “Our prayers have been answered.”
“’Oh, my gosh, they are so kind!’ And I will be forever grateful!” Davidson told Soaps In Depth, in an interview.
His return to the Young and The Restless broke last February. As the news made its rounds online, Davidson tweeted: “So, the cat is out of the bag. None of any of this would happen without all of your undying loyalty, support, and kindness.
Young And The Restless News – Enthusiasm Was Humbling
“All of you are the reason Paul is back on the canvas. Thank you so much. Eric Braeden, who plays Victor Newman, has been incredible the entire time. A huge thanks to him as well!”
Braeden was among the many people, both cast and fans, who vocally expressed their excitement about his return.
Davidson has had a long history with the Young and The Restless as he had played the role of Paul Williams for 40 years. Given that, fans were shocked when he was dropped from the sudser back in 2018. When his character went missing in Genoa City, he was thankful for all the love he received from fans.
“I think the amount of enthusiasm was remarkable and humbling,” he recalled. He added that many people reached out to him through social media.
Young And The Restless News – Career Has Been Low Key
“Most of my career has been rather low-key by choice. I didn’t do a lot of grandstanding. It was really nice to be part of a family, a group, so when it ended, it shocked me, and perhaps it shocked [the fans] even more.”
He took his four-month absence from the sudser as a “rough spot.” Davidson said this experience made him realize the “depths of their devotion and enjoyment of what I did. Because it’s me in the car, on stage, having dinner, learning my lines. It’s not like the theater where people stand up and applaud. But this was life-changing. The fan reaction made the sun come up in the morning for me!”

He also attributed his fans’ reaction to the Young and The Restless. He explained that one of the soap’s main objective was for the viewers to get to know all the characters and think of them as family or neighbors. With that, viewers feel a strong connection with the characters like his alter ego, Paul.
