Eva LaRue, who is known for her role on All My Children, has booked a new role on the Young and the Restless. LaRue will play Celeste Rosales, the mother of Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) and Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle).
Celeste will arrive in Genoa City on June 26, just when Arturo Rosales (Jason Canela) is leaving. LaRue will begin filming next week, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The news may come as a bit of a surprise to many Y&R viewers who were thinking that the daytime soap was cutting off the Rosales family clan one by one. Arturo and Rey’s wife, Mia Rosales (Noemi Gonzalez) have been let go.
Young And The Restless News – The Rosales Clan Will Survive
But it seems like the clan is going to survive, with the matriarch coming to town. Celeste’s presence may bring drama to Rey and Lola, and maybe to other existing characters as well. Young and the Restless spoilers tease that she has a complicated relationship with her children.
Unlike the Newmans, the Abbotts, and the Chancellors, the Rosales family is a working class, which was gradually introduced in 2018 by former executive producer and head writer Mal Young. Arturo was the first one to arrive in March, and his brother Rey came not until August, followed by Lola in September. Back then, Young said that more members of the clan would arrive in Genoa City.
Young said that Y&R started with the have and have-nots. “Then the show went through different periods of development. Now there are a lot of rich people in [Genoa City], which is great, because you can show that no matter if you’re a billionaire, your life still sucks!” Young explained to Soaps In Depth.
Young And The Restless News – LaRue Played Maria Santos Grey
“I wanted to introduce a different class of people. The [Rosaleses] are blue-collar, but they’re also aspirational. That’s important for viewers to see. It feels like more of a realistic representation of life.”
LaRue played neurologist Dr. Maria Santos Grey on All My Children from 1993 to 2011. She received a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1997.
