The Abbott family enjoyed a wonderful Christmas celebration on ‘The Young and the Restless’. The clan gathered at Society with the complete Baldwin family, meaning that Fen Baldwin (Zach Tinker) was there.

After a good meal and pleasantries were shared, Traci gave everyone an inscripted copy of her soon-to-be published historical fiction book. Then, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) traveled across the set and back to their ancestral home. Together they, Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) and Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) were joined by a special visitor.

Yet another heart-warming set of scenes were projected, as the Abbott siblings and their niece welcomed Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams). She was visiting from the memory care center where other Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients live in dignity.

Following Jack’s verbal cue, Traci began to sing solo. Maitland’s rendition of ‘O Come Let Us Adore Him’ was phenomenal and then it became timeless.

Abby, Jack, and Ashley were enthralled when they saw Dina rise to join Traci. Together they belted out a magnificent a cappella performance. The ladies were joined by their loved ones in a scene that surely brightened many viewer’s lives and possibly whetted an eye. Yes it was daytime drama in its finest hour.

Anytime Adams returns to the cast is cause for celebration. Her latest appearance and join into an initial duet with Maitland underscored just how talented these two particular actors are.

Dina’s story ranks with the greatest of this decade. And Adams’ performances are among the best any actor has given in many years.

Thankfully, Y&R created a storyline for Maitland earlier this year. Blending Traci’s writing profession into the script created a story within a story, that included a fine way to say goodbye to longtime cast member Daniel Goddard (Cane Ashby), just prior to that actor’s actual departure.

Traci’s book story was followed by a collaboration with Jack on the Abbott’s family history. That arc served to reveal Dina’s unknown grandson, Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson).

It’s not healthy to live in the past, considering all that happened between John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) and the then Dina Abbott during all those days that are now mere images in everyone’s minds.

It’s foolish to ponder every possible fate that could befall the Abbott family as the future plays out. Who are they, or any group in Genoa City, Wisconsin, to believe that tomorrow will be as one imagines?

Instead, the Abbott’s chose to celebrate today by living it. In those splendidly scripted, produced, directed, and acted moments the audience saw the characters and they may have also seen themselves.
