The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) personal emotions are understandable. But time and the law appear to both be on his brother’s side.
Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) thought he’d be living in prison for years. Of course, Y&R fans know that it was actually Justin Hartley’s version of this character who met with Morrow in the jailhouse visitor’s room setting in the late summer of 2016.
Nick was asked if he’d look out for Connor Newman (Gunner and Ryder Gadbois). He openly agreed and the Newman rival siblings actually reached an accord. Adam wanted Nick to care for his son but didn’t say that he knew Christian Newman (Jude and Ozzy McGuigen) was not Nick’s blood.
Digitally skip nearly three years ahead, Grossman is the recast and Morrow continues as the only-ever Nick. Adam’s old life beckons with his memory restored. But more than desiring reconciliation with Chelsea Newman (Melissa Claire Egan), or whatever her new married name is, and also wanting to reconnect with Connor, Adam wants to be with his other son as well.
Nick is right to feel betrayed, as he’s been the only father Christian remembers. Dylan McAvoy (Steve Burton) was said, by Sharon McAvoy (Sharon Case), her last name at the time, to be Sully’s father. Sully being the name ‘Shylan’ used for the boy that Sharon knew was Sage Newman’s (Kelly Sullivan) child but kept as though he was her own.
A legal challenge of this type in the real world could be researched and addressed with certain precedents cited. But in Genoa City, Adam projects as the winner. Why? Well, not just because he’s Christian’s biological father, but also because he often comes out on top, though with various human costs incurred.
Nick’s standing would seem to be tied to Adam’s apparent duplicity. But the truth was that Hartley’s edition of Adam, along with Chelsea, expressed compassion for Nick. Adam believed that Sage’s death was enough for Nick to have endured. He wasn’t about to take Christian away from him and add to his brother’s grief.
If that truthful story comes to be told in court it would seem that a judge’s interpretation of the law, which is what the subjective legal system represents, could be heavily influenced. At worst, Adam might receive joint custody. But this situation feels more like full custody will be awarded to the character Grossman is now playing, with Morrow’s alter ego being allowed indefinite visitation.
