Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) is out of sorts on ‘The Young and the Restless’. That makes sense, as he’s just given away what remained of the fortune his grandmother, Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper), left him as an inheritance in 2013.
The bulk of two and a half billion dollars is a massive amount of money to have received. It’s also an incredible amount to steal, as Colin Atkinson (Tristan Rogers) seems to have done.
Devon now believes that he was conned into giving away Katherine’s money. The will page hoax definitely involved Colin, but James’ character thinks it also was furthered by Cane Ashby (Daniel Goddard) and Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan). However, those assumptions are surely questionable.
Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) is also receiving backlash from Devon, which is mostly because they’re living at the penthouse that Katherine’s fortune paid for. Being the significant other means that Elena has witnessed and been part of the crossfire of what’s happened since Devon first received Amanda’s letter. Love is making her push Devon to consider alternative conclusions.
Devon’s receipt of the attorney’s alert opened what was eventually revealed to be a hoax. Tucker McCall (Stephen Nichols) hadn’t orchestrated a forgery, where Katherine’s seeming original will was a fake.
Instead, Colin apparently decided to set his own son up as a patsy. Devon has chosen not to believe Cane’s side of the story, or that Amanda is innocent.
If Cane was involved in this scheme, why would he have been knocked out in Las Vegas, Nevada, and given seemingly authentic will pages? The answer to this question hasn’t been finalized, but is at least debatable.
It feels unusual for Goddard’s character to be written out of the show in this fashion. But Cane set off to clear his name and hopefully to find the money Colin transferred out of his accounts.
In the meantime, enough isn’t known about Amanda. The tracking device on her phone is linked to an unknown source. So more time is needed to determine her innocence, or guilt.
The seemingly never retired underworld boss managed to escape custody. That point furthers legitimate beliefs that he was the mastermind.
It’s possible that Devon, Cane, the twins, and Amanda have all been used by Colin. With Rogers and Goddard now off-screen it seems as though Jill Abbott Atkinson (Jess Walton) will become the character who eventually helps to resolve this mystery.
Kudos to Goddard on his longtime Y&R run (2007-2019). Hopefully he’ll be given a recurring contract, or return full-time again some day. As for Rogers, he’s also welcome back anytime, as his rogue alter ego is consistently played to the hilt.
