The facts haven’t been fully verified on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Hardcore fans know that Adam Newman (as then played by Michael Muhney) was never actually shown accidentally hitting Delia Abbott (Sophie Pollono) with his black sports utility vehicle on that dark road. Might the return of Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe Mitchell) to the cast be a setup for a surprising revision to this legendary storyline?
At the moment, everyone involved in this matter is looking one way. Adam (as now played by Mark Grossman) has Chloe contained, which is a snarky way of putting it because she shot him a few weeks ago.
Chloe’s second failed attempt to extinguish the man who she believes accidentally killed her child, but attempted to cover up what he later learned what he supposedly did, has led to another stare-down with Adam. Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) is involved and much to his chagrin, is doing Adam’s bidding in an attempt to get Chloe released.
The momentary conflict involves ‘Khloe’s’ attempts to keep their ruse alive. Chloe faked her death, with Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) help no less, so that she wouldn’t face the legal consequences of her attempt to blow Adam up in September 2016.
New evidence, unearthing whatever assumed driver actually did hit Delia, will need to be discovered in order to alter perceived show history. There did appear to be another vehicle on the road that fated night. Yes, soap opera writers can adjust details however they like in order to remix a tale.
Sure, there would be holes if this path were pursued. One of them involves Delia, with Pollono reprising her role in spirit form in the years following her character’s death, appearing to and then encouraging her father to forgive Adam. Why wouldn’t she have simply told Billy Abbott (as now played by Jason Thompson) that he was innocent, as her otherworldly form would have known?
Adam wouldn’t become the most popular man in GC if he is cleared. But this lingering part of his backstory, which has haunted him and arguably restricted the character’s growth, can be changed. Whether that happens is the question.
