The Young And The Restless Last Week In Review: Society Has A Successful Opening – Tragedy Strikes The Winters Family

Society had its grand opening this week and while it should have been a happy occasion for Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) and Devon Hamilton (Bryton James), it turned into one of the saddest evenings of their lives.

It started off well enough. Abby let the crowd in, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) and Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) pulled some shenanigans, promoting their own companies at the event, and Devon scolded them.

Mia Rosales (Noemi Gonzalez) snuck into the restaurant and cozied up to Jack at the bar. She flirted with him until Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) discovered she was there and kicked her out.

Bad News Spread Through GC

But then Devon went home to check on his dad, who should have shown up hours earlier. He found Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) dead in his condo. He then returned to the restaurant to break the news to his sister Lily Winters (Christel Khalil). Eventually, everyone at Society found out about Neil and comforted each other.

Word spread throughout Genoa City of Neil’s untimely demise. Abby informed Jack and Ashley and the news affected them so much they called a truce.

Then Jack called his nemesis Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) to break the bad news. Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) was with him and when she found out, it hit her particularly hard.

Kyle Abbott Called A Punk

Also on this week’s Y&R, we saw Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) brazenly kiss Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle) at the Society opening. This did not sit well with Summer Newman’s (Hunter King) father Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow). He pushed Kyle and confronted him, calling him a punk. Summer defended her cheating husband. But when they returned home, Kyle told her he was calling it quits on their sham marriage.

The tribute episodes to Neil were a nice idea and must have been a much-needed sense of closure for all of St. John’s his co-stars and friends on Y&R. It seemed like a bit of overkill, however, and probably could have been contained to two episodes.

When Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor) passed away a few years ago, an actress who had been on the Y&R since its beginning, producers only dedicated one episode to her.
