Ryan Hawley Bids Emmerdale Goodbye After Playing Robert Sugden For 5 Years

It has been five long and fruitful years for Ryan Hawley playing Robert Sugden on Emmerdale. Since joining in 2014, his character has been through a lot, including having affairs, getting involved in a manslaughter, accidentally killing his sister-in-law, going to prison, and being a husband and a wife.

Unfortunately, Hawley has decided to take a break from the soap, and he will be leaving later this year. “Emmerdale fans have loved every minute of RobRon’s story, and what Ryan has brought to playing Robert,” an ITV source told The Sun. “But he has decided to take a break from the show for the foreseeable future and try other projects.”

The source added that Emmerdale viewers will still see Robert onscreen until the end of the year.

Emmerdale Spoilers– How Will Ryan Hawley’s Exit Play Out?

One of the highlights of Ryan’s portrayal of Robert is his alter ego’s relationship with Aaron Dingle. But with Ryan’s impending exit, it seems that their romance, dubbed as RobRon, might be coming to an end. ITV has declined to make comments on storyline speculations, so it is also unclear if they have any plans to recast the role. Hawley has been the fourth actor to portray Robert Sugden. Richard Smith, Christopher Smith, and Karl Davies, previously played the character.

Playing Robert has earned Hawley a couple of awards nomination, including Best Actor and Best Villain at the British Soap Awards. Last year, he bagged the Tric Award for Best Actor.

Ryan Has Not Revealed What He Will Do Next

Before Emmerdale, Hawley appeared in different TV series and films, including Doctors, Survivors, The Royal, The Wyoming Story, Devil’s Pass, and the mini-series Titanic.

Fans and co-stars are heartbroken upon hearing the news that Ryan Hawley is leaving “Emmerdale.” Jay Kontzle, who currently portrays Billy Fletcher on the soap, shared on Twitter, ”I don’t want him go… he followed me around the studio yesterday giving me his rendition of Happy Birthday.”

“My heart may be broken but I wish nothing but the absolute best for Ryan, he deserves it.. such a talented actor and such a sweet, humble guy. Emmerdale definitely won’t be the same without him,” another fan wrote.

What will happen to RobRon? Will the bosses give Hawley another big storyline to send him off?
