On “General Hospital,” viewers recently discovered that Nikolas Cassidine (Marcus Coloma) is alive and well! Years before he was presumed dead, fans have seen the character switch from his good to bad-boy persona. Now that he’s back, which of his personality will dominate?
Back in 2016, Nikolas faked his death and framed his wife Hayden Barnes (Rebecca Budig) for his supposed untimely passing. But after a few weeks, his good side reemerged when he decided to give up his inheritance to his uncle Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) in exchange for the safety of his loved ones.
Marcus Coloma, the actor who took over the role said “General Hospital” has a “Shakespearean feel” to it.
“Hamlet’s fatal flaw was he didn’t act, and I think Nikolas’ fatal flaw was similar. He struggled with his conscience, and as a result, here was this very evil, corrupt man [in Valentin] who was basically threatening his entire world,” he explained.
Gh Spoilers– Who Can Nikolas Cassadine Trust?
When the character was off-screen, his alter ego had enough time to reevaluate his past actions and determine the people he can and cannot trust.
“I’ve known people who come from very wealthy families or from the celebrity world,” the actor said, “and it’s a very interesting thing to not know who actually cares about you and who is using you. Nikolas battled with that and died because of maybe being too trusting.”

General Hospital Spoilers –The Effects Of Betrayal
Coloma added that a person’s demeanor will significantly be affected by such a betrayal. Plus, he lost precious time with his son, Spencer Cassadine (Nikolas Bechtel). Nobody wants to be away from their kid.
“I’ve had a taste of what it’s like to not see your kid for a second — let alone for the amount of time that Nikolas has been ‘dead’!” he said.
The actor added that his alter ego has “changed significantly” after all he’s been through. He’s not the same guy he once was.
When asked how darker can his character get, Coloma simply answered that it will soon be revealed. “I will tell you that Nikolas is definitely focused on payback… and as an actor, I’m looking for conflict!” he teased.
