General Hospital News: John J. York Opens Up About Health Issues

General Hospital star John J. York has recently opened up about an ongoing health issue. The actor, who plays Mac Scorpio on the highly rated ABC soap said that he has been battling with ulcerative colitis. It is a chronic disease of the large intestine, also known as the colon, in which the lining of the colon becomes inflamed and develops tiny open sores, or ulcers, that produce pus and mucous.

Speaking to Lifestyle Magazine, the veteran daytime television actor said that it has been an issue that he has been dealing with for years now. Despite the pain, it hasn’t stopped him from doing all of the things he loves and of course, working on the set of General Hospital.

He told the publication, “It can come on gradually or suddenly. The symptoms can disappear, only to come back months or even years later. It can make you feel tired, nauseous. It can even be painful. I’m talking about ulcerative colitis, and 1.6 million Americans are affected by it.”

We hope that John continues to get treatment that will help his condition and that he gets all of the rest and relaxation that he deserves. Of course, it also goes without saying that his fans absolutely miss seeing him on the small screen again. As of press time, General Hospital producers have made no comments on whether or not we will be seeing his character Mac Scorpio on the canvas in the coming months. Fingers crossed!
