General Hospital News: GH’s John J. York Lands Exciting New Gig

Also known as Mac Scorpio on “General Hospital,” John J. York has landed an exciting new gig in a film called “Chasing Nightmares.” The highly acclaimed and multi-award-winning thriller screenplay is scheduled to go into production in December 2019. The movie is penned and directed by Chris McGowan.

York takes on the role of Doctor Bender. He’ll be working with Michelle Randolph, Anne Heche, Graham McTavish, Spencer Daniels, Jay Huguley, Chandler Rylko, Aubrey Cleland, Kyle Jones, Ian Pala and Melody Peng.

The feature-length thriller is about a college student who risks not only her life but that of her friends’. She makes it her mission to uncover the truth about her nightmares and visions of a masked murderer whom she thinks is real and is connected somehow to her family.

General Hospital Spoilers – 61st Birthday Celebration

York recently celebrated his 61st birthday on December 10. The actor wanted to become a professional football player. However, his plans were derailed when he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. He studied marketing at the University of Whitewater in Wisconsin. However, he decided to drop out and returned home to study acting under Edward Kaye-Martin.

His first acting appearance was at the Wisdom Bridge Theatre. He appeared in various plays like “Picnic,” “Loss of Roses,” “Career,” and “Golden Boy.”

General Hospital Spoilers – Moving to Los Angeles

He moved to Los Angeles in 1983 where he waited tables. After trying his luck in auditions, he managed to land small roles in the TV movie called “Listen to Your Heart,” and two other primetime programs like “Dynasty” and “Hotel.”

GH Spoilers – Other Acting Credits

After one year, he landed acting gigs on two movies, “Chattanooga Choo Choo” and “The Bear.” In 1986, he appeared on “Night of the Creeps” and made a guest appearance on “Hunter” and “Hotel.” In 1987, he appeared in the feature film “House of the Rising Sun” and was awarded the lead role in the horror series titled “Werewolf.” He also joined the cast of “Murder She Wrote” and “21 Jump Street.”

In 1991, he joined the cast of ABC’s “General Hospital” as Malcolm “Mac” Scorpio. He has played the part ever since. He also played the character on other daytime soap operas on “All My Children,” “Port Charles,” and “General Hospital: Night Shift.”
