General Hospital News: Former GH Writer Working On New TV Show

Netflix has tapped Sri Rao, the former head writer of “General Hospital: Night Shift” for a new project. Rao is set to write a new family drama for the streaming platform. Rao will also serve as the showrunner but the series will be helmed by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Productions.

Aside from “General Hospital: Night Shift,” Rao also penned other television titles like “What Goes On,” “The Black Widow,” and the Bollywood movie “Baar Baar Dekho.”

Netflix’s New, Still Untitled Series

The new show will star Bollywood legend Madhuri Dixit and this will be her Netflix acting debut. Other details are being kept tightly under wraps. However, it’s been revealed that the series will focus on the lives of people who are involved in the entertainment industry.

Netflix and Dharmatic Entertainment will be producing the series. Back in September, Netflix signed a long-term contract with Dharmatic to create a range of fiction and non-fiction series and films.

Dixit’s Career

Dixit is a legend when it comes to Bollywood films. Some of her acting credits include 1988’s “Tezaab,” 1994’s “Hum Aapke Hain Koun…!,” 1997’s “Dil To Pagal Hai,” and 2002’s “Devdas.” She produced the Netflix original films “15 August,” which started streaming in March.

“I’ve been working in films for decades now and facing the camera has always been one of my greatest joys. But this is the first time I’ll be working on a series, and I’m both excited and nervous,” Dixit said.

“It will be a completely new experience, because while you have to be judicious when telling a story on film, you have the luxury of time in a series,” she continued.

General Hospital: Night Shift

“General Hospital: Night Shift” was an American primetime TV series that aired on Soapnet from July 12, 2007, to October 4, 2007. The 13-episode show was a spin-off of the ABC daytime soap opera “General Hospital.” The series was the second spin-off of GH. The first one was “Port Charles,” which was a 30-minute daytime serial that ran from 1997 to 2003.

The show, which was Soapnet’s first original scripted drama series, followed the adventures of new and familiar characters in the hospital at night. The first season became “Soapnet’s most-watched series ever” and drew a whopping 1 million new viewers to the channel. It returned for its second season with 14 episodes, which ran from July 22, 2008, to October 21, 2008.
