General Hospital: Maurice Benard Shares Exciting News!

The release date of Maurice Benard’s memoir has finally been revealed. “Nothing General About It: Love (and Lithium) Saved Me On and Off General Hospital” will be out on April 7, 2020, by William Morrow publishing company. The book is also available for pre-order on Amazon.

In his book, Benard, who is popularly known as the mob boss Sonny Corinthos on “General Hospital,” shares experiences and struggles at home and at work.

His autobiography does not just showcase his 25-year run as Sonny on the show. Benard also covers his struggles with his mental health condition. Benard has shared that he is bipolar, and he is a vocal advocate for mental illness.

His memoir details the time he spent in an institution. He also talks about how he fought to control his manic episodes at work. He also highlighted the unconditional love and support given to him by wife and colleagues.

Benard also emphasizes the importance for those who are suffering from the same or similar condition to get help and to push through their most difficult and darkest times. Moreover, the book contains an insert featuring about 50 photos.

Born as Mauricio Jose Morales, Benard grew up in San Francisco, California. He landed his first acting role on “All My Children” where he played the character Nico Kelly from 1987 to 1990.

General Hospital News – Benard First Joined The Cast In August 1993

He then joined the cast of the ABC daytime soap opera “General Hospital.” He plays the manic depressive mob boss, Sonny Corinthos.

Benard first appeared on GH in August 1993 and also landed several other acting gigs on both film and TV. He appeared on “Mi Vida Loca,” “To Face Her Past,” “Confession,” “The Ghost and the Whale,” “Joy,” and “Victoria Gotti: My Father’s Daughter.”

Benard also guest-starred on several other TV shows including “Dark Justice,” “Port Charles,” and “General Hospital Night Shift.” Throughout his career, Benard has earned several accolades for his impeccable acting performance.

He was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1996, 1997, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2011 and this year. He won the award in 2003 and 2019.
