General Hospital Matt Cohen Reportedly Out As GH Griffin Munro

General Hospital spoilers have some breaking news to report about Matt Cohen, who portrays Dr. Griffin Munro on the ABC soap. Nerds and Beyond is reporting that Matt is officially out at GH and that his last airdate is March 22.

We’ve known for a while that Matt chose not to renew his contract at GH, so he could pursue other opportunities. He’s been busy directing the upcoming short action movie Mama Bear, which will premiere at film festivals in California, Iowa, and Pennsylvania later this month. He may also have other projects in the works for the future.

Of course, Griffin hasn’t been doing much on-screen lately. The last time he saw some action when his girlfriend Kiki Jerome (Hayley Erin) was murdered last year. Griffin was the grieving boyfriend left behind, who was then framed by Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom) for the murder for a brief time. In a heartbreaking turn of events, he emotionally maintained his innocence and his undying love for Kiki.

But since the murder storyline, Griffin hasn’t had much to do. He’s been mostly seen brooding around the hospital and unhappy in the wake of Kiki’s death. And recently, he’s been sporting several cuts and bruises after spending time in the ring. It’s been a sad story of grief and self-destruction for Griffin, and his storyline’s about to come to an end without any happy resolution for the character.

Exactly how his character leaves GH remains to be seen, but it’s likely that he’ll walk off the job, or just simply fade into the background. In the preview for Thursday, March 21, Griffin is shown being argumentative with Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) when she approaches him looking for a little moral support over her ordeal with Alex Devane (Finola Hughes).

Anna appears to be stunned as Griffin angrily tells her that they’re not going to support each other, so it appears that he’s pushing his dear friend Anna away.

This indicates that he may just up and leave Port Charles, which would make sense since he likely wants to get away from the memories of Kiki and her murder.

But the good news in all of this is that it looks like Griffin’s exit will allow the possibility of a return down the road. There simply isn’t a good storyline for Griffin right now, but that could change in the future if TPTB come up with some more meaty material for him and a place for his story to re-evolve.

At any rate, Griffin will surely be missed by GH fans. Are you surprised by his sudden departure?
