While visiting soap groups this week, I was shocked to find people questioning why Oscar Nero (Garren Stitt) could not obtain a drivers license. Apparently, some people believe that medical questions do not pertain to driver’s licenses, and that belief is false
Yes, we know General Hospital is a soap opera. However, some events hold true to life even on a soap. Oscar had a seizure not even a month ago. In almost every state in the United States, your driver’s license application asks if you have seizures.
Uncontrolled seizures are not safe, and it would be irresponsible to give someone a license, knowing they have no warning when a seizure is coming on before it hits full force. A driver with uncontrolled seizure activity is the equivalent of a speeding train through a crowd of people. Oscar is not a safe person to put behind the wheel or a vehicle.
General Hospital – Eye Tests Are Relevant
A driver who has bad eyesight is required to get corrective lenses before being issued a driver’s license. If a driver cannot past the eye test, they are not permitted to drive. Why would a seizure require anything less?
General Hospital may not be a teaching program, but it would be irresponsible to allow a seizure patient to have a license. GH gets called on a lot of things fans consider screw ups, and they would be called out for this one.

General Hospital’s Oscar has terminal cancer. No one knows what symptom will hit him next. He could go into a coma behind the wheel or lose his eyesight. Oscar could also become paralyzed, go into a seizure or he could die while driving that car.
Who would be responsible if any of these things were to happen? Would it be Oscar’s who is a typical teenage boy who wants to drive his car or would it be the DMV who issued a license to someone who is not safe to be on the road?

General Hospital – Port Charles Residents Don’t Deserve To Be Run Over
General Hospital is playing this right, because it is not OK to give a license to someone who has no control over their bodily actions because of a brain tumor. Oscar fans might feel bad for him because driving isn’t something he will get to do, but consider the rest of Port Charles – they don’t deserve to be run down.
As always, more detailed spoilers and a full collection of pictures for the week in question will appear here on Soap Opera Spy, where there will be more clues and hints over exactly what’s going on.
