EastEnders News: Newborn Baby Named After Barbara Windsor As Tribute

“EastEnders” will pay tribute to one of its iconic soap alums, Barbara Windsor by naming its newest arrival after her. Louise Mitchell (Tilly Keeper) and Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) is expecting their first baby, who will be named Peggy when she’s born. Windsor, who’s retired from acting, became “quite emotion” after hearing about the tribute, her husband Scott Mitchell said.

“She thought what a lovely thing it is Peggy Mitchell will live on in a family member. What a lovely tribute,” Mitchell said. He added that his wife’s face always lights up and becomes quite emotional every time he reminds her of it whenever they watch the show each night.

Windsor was last seen play Peggy on screen in 2016. She left the show when her character committed suicide to escape her battle with cancer. The emotional scene followed after the actress’ decision to bring closure to her alter ego following her Alzheimer’s diagnosis in real life.

Mitchell urged his wife to consult a doctor about her forgetfulness back in 2012. For two years, medical professionals monitored her condition until a brain scan and lumbar puncture confirmed his worst fear. The soap star, who’s famous for her catchphrase “get outta my pub,” learned about her disease in 2014. Since then, the actress has spent her time getting treated for the chronic neurodegenerative disease.

It was her husband who revealed the actress’ Alzheimer’s diagnosis to the public as Windsor’s memory loss has started to progress significantly.

He hoped that the revelation will help other families who have loved ones suffering from this cruel disease. The other reason why she came forward was because the public “are naturally very drawn to Barbara and she loves talking to them.”

“So rather than me living in fear she might get confused or upset, they’ll know that if her behavior seems strange, it’s due to Alzheimer’s and accept it for what it is,” Mitchell said.

Louise and Keanu’s Baby Peggy will most likely have a dramatic life by the time she’s brought into this world, just like her great grandmother. Viewers know that her father, Keanu, had a secret affair with her mother’s, Louise, stepmother Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean).

Fans can expect the storyline to get even more explosive over Christmas, according to BBC showrunner Kate Oates.

“Sheanu is going to blow up. I think it’s safe to say that’s going to be pretty big at Christmas time,” Oates said.
