Yes, Bo and Steve (ex-Stephen Nichols) got into a fight while in the Merchant Marines and put Steve’s eye out in a knife fight. Did Bo do it to be malicious? No, Bo and Steve both had knives, they were fighting over a woman that both of them were sleeping with at the time.
Britta caused the entire fight, but Steve was not innocent in the fight either. Yes, Steve blamed Bo for years. However, they made up and became best friends again.
Bo Brady got into more trouble trying to do good than he did by intentionally committing crimes. When Bo came to town, he befriended half the teens in town. Bo worked with Chris (Josh Taylor) and Danny ( Roger Aaron Brown) to get help get Liz (Gloria Loring) out of prison.
Bo saved Hope from a would-be rapist. Bo became a P.I. and worked to solve crimes. Bo finally became a cop at Abe’s urging so his efforts as a P.I. didn’t lead to him getting into legal trouble.

Bo worked to capture Stefano (Joe Mascolo), to save Roman’s (Josh Taylor) children from Stefano. Bo tried to protect Marlena (Deidre Hall). He worked with the ISA and British authorities to bring down a serial killer who was stalking the heirs to the throne. Bo’s efforts impressed the monarch so much that he and Hope’s wedding in England was payment for his efforts to help save lives.
Ben did not help people; Ben killed people. Ben killed Paige (True Obrien) for no reason. Ben killed Serena (Melissa Archer) for no reason. Ben tried to kill Will (Chandler Massey) because he found out the truth.
Ben did this because he was evil no matter whether he was sick or not. Ben tried to burn Abby (Kate Mansi) and Chad (Billy Flynn) alive. Ben did not do this for the good of anyone but Ben.
Bo was a good guy, a rebel without a cause. Bo never made a point of hurting people for no reason. Bo wasn’t a cold-blooded killer. Bo never tried to burn anyone alive. Bo died a hero after trying to help his mom with treatment for her Alzheimers. These two are as different as night and day.
Hope is wrong for her attitude toward Ciara and Ben, however, comparing an accident in a fight to the purposeful killing of innocent people is not right. Bo would probably not be happy with Ciara’s choice either. Bo would probably be more understanding because of the way Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) and Doug (Bill Hayes) reacted to him in the beginning though.
