It looks like Coronation Street fans might be seeing a fan favorite return to Weatherfield in the coming months. That is, if the producers of the hit ITV soap get their way. As a matter of fact, there’s a new report that says Coronation Street bosses are urging actress Eileen Derbyshire to come back on the soap to reprise her role as Emily Bishop. Here’s what we know so far.
According to reports, both Coronation Street producers and viewers of the long running soap are hoping that Eileen will agree to come back on the show.
Emily Bishop Returning To Coronation Street?
The last time we saw Emily in action, she announced that she was moving to Peru back in 2016 so she could spend time with her nephew, Spider. Eileen made the decision in order to take a much-needed break from the show.
But now that a few years have passed, fans are hoping for Emily’s return. And now Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod is urging Eileen to come back sooner rather than later. He told Britain’s Inside Soap Magazine in a new interview, “Those older characters are my bread and butter, and it’s what makes Corrie, ‘Corrie.’ So, I would love to have Emily back if I could, although that is a discussion for me and Eileen to have privately.”

Eileen Derbyshire To Make A Corrie Comeback?
As many fans already know, the 87-year-old actress is Coronation Street’s second longest-serving cast member after William Roache. Just recently Eileen was spotted having dinner in London with Russell Hayward, who is the boyfriend of Coronation Street super fan Martyn Hett, who sadly lost his life in the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing. So far Eileen herself hasn’t made any comments about a possible comeback although it’s without a doubt that her fans have their fingers crossed!
