This is Us Season 3 Spoilers: Justin Hartley Opens Up About Kevin’s Transformation

This is Us Season 3 will be seeing a lot of changes in Kevin Pearson. But according to the character’s portrayer, actor Justin Hartley, this has been a long time coming. As a matter of fact, eagle-eyed fans should have suspected that it was only a matter of time before we got to see Kevin’s downward spiral.

Even though he was the only Pearson family child who looked like he was keeping it all together from the outside, he was struggling to let his real emotions from eating him up from within.

According to Vulture, Justin said in an interview, “I think the first season was a lot of levity. You see him a certain way and then you see this decline and it’s speeding up and it’s this snowball that’s rolling down this hill and there’s no stopping him until he crashes down to the bottom.”

What’s more, Kevin might have tried to keep his struggles buried for the sake of his two siblings, Kate and Randall. Kate has long been struggling with her self-confidence while Randall has been having issues with his anxiety.

Up until this point, it was Kevin who tried to stay as sane as he could for his brother and sister. But that wasn’t the case at all. Justin just didn’t want to fall apart in front of his siblings.

Justin added, “This entire time he’s been looking at everyone else saying, ‘I wish you could handle it the way I do. I don’t know how to help you with that, but it’s ok.’ But that wasn’t the truth.”
