The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: What Happens To the Ashby Family While Lily Is Imprisoned?

The verdict is in on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Lily’s (Christel Khalil) twelve-month sentence might be seen as lenient by Christine (Lauralee Bell), but is an otherwise harsh punishment for the entire Ashby family. How will Cane (Daniel Goddard), Mattie (Lexie Stevenson), and Charlie (Noah Alexander Gerry) fare while the heart of their family lives in prison until next September?

Cane is now tasked with raising the twins and toddler Sam, the son he had with Juliet (Laur Allen). It’s natural that Goddard’s character broke down after Mattie and Charlie left for the first day of school.

Well, Mattie went to school, but Charlie didn’t. He stopped at Crimson Lights and is depressed by the sentence his mom received. That’s understandable because he and his girlfriend Shauna (Camryn Hamm) sparked the fight between Hilary (Mishael Morgan) and Lily in ‘Hevon’s’ penthouse. That led to the frenzied search for Shauna, the car accident, and the deaths that resulted in his mom’s imprisonment.

The youngest Ashby family member has a loving father and two caring siblings, along with his nanny. Yes, it was said that Sam has already noticed his adoptive mother is gone. But he’ll be okay.

As for Cane, his personality type may lead viewers, especially ‘Lane’ fans, to believe that he’ll put far too much pressure on himself. A storyline teased in the past implied that Cane was going to start over-using painkillers in order to deal with the effects of a lower-body injury and surgery that was required. Y&R didn’t write in that direction, but that type of storyline could be revisited now.

Whether Cane explores alternative romantic options, or a new female character takes an interest in him during this period, would surely create controversial plot paths.

Mattie’s first relationship was with Reed (Tristan Lake Leabu). That eventually led to ‘Meed’ and Charlie being trapped in a fire at The Underground just prior to Halloween in 2017. Billy (Jason Thompson) played hero and rescued the trio.

Reed left town in the spring and is attending a music school. It would be good if Leabu is written back into the story, or if he’s not available, if this character is recast. A tie-up to the J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) storyline, whenever that happens, could also tie into Mattie and Reed’s repairing.
