Lily (Christel Khalil) didn’t not receive the maximum prison sentence on ‘The Young and the Restless’. But having her spend one year behind bars in Wisconsin’s Walworth State Prison is still devastating for the Ashby family. However, that punishment, along with the other sanctions the sentencing judge imposed, fits the accidental crime Lily committed.
There was no evidence that Lily intended to kill Hilary (Mishael Morgan) and her unborn child. So the car accident’s accidental nature was therefore affirmed in court. Legal consequences then resulted, which is what Christine (Lauralee Bell) sought as Genoa City’s District Attorney.
Justice is a subjective matter, as Y&R viewers saw. The initial victim impact statement made by Shauna (Camryn Hamm) was a surprise. She expressed compassion for Lily and had Devon’s (Bryton James) approval, as their nods to each other during Hamm’s dialogue revealed.
Devon’s first statement to the judge didn’t provide what Lily and her loved ones were hoping for. He spoke with bitterness against his sister, which appeared to telegraph a long prison stay for Lily.

Khalil’s publicly announced drop to recurring status appeared to preview certain imprisonment for Lily. Having that information before the storyline fully played out, as was true in Morgan’s arc-ender weeks ago, seemed unusual. But it could be reflective of modern soaps’ philosophy shift in how best to generate buzz.
Viewers must have been wondering why the sentencing judge would allow those two specific victim’s, as there were also others, statements to sway his opinion of justice? The facts of Lily’s case, not personal emotions linked to a few of those affected, should have overridden all that was before the bench in GC.
Devon’s second statement was offered just as the judge was about to render his decision. Hilary’s wrecked spouse, who is also grieving the loss of what would have been ‘Hevon’s’ first child, was overcome by his better instincts. Devon spoke with passion in saying that Hilary wouldn’t have wanted Lily punished for what happened and the judge was asked to consider his altered point.
Loss of Lily’s license, along with community service, and a fifty thousand dollar fine was fitting. A stay of one year behind bars does appear to be just, as two lives were lost forever. Lily will now spend just one year away from her life in order to pay for an accident that was also deemed a punishable crime.
