Victor (Eric Braeden) believes in capitalism on ‘The Young and the Restless’. He knows that no other economic system would have allowed Newman Enterprises to grow as it has through the years. As part of his ideology, the ‘Moustache’ employs a game of rivals theory. In this case that pits Ashley (Eileen Davidson) against Victoria (Amelia Heinle) for the greater good of Newman.
Vickie recently returned to her dad’s company. She’s the Chief Operating Officer. A haughty term that was invented years ago to allay the egos of other big-feelings executives. While prickly, she’s also a savvy business head who pulls no punches, secures various lucrative deals and has no problem making cold decisions.
Victor’s namesake is right to question his addition of Ashley and her positioning within the company’s hierarchy. But Abby’s (Melissa Ordway) temporary relocation to Europe meant that a hole existed within the company’s headquarters.
Ashley agreed to join her ex-husband’s company because she had it out with Jack (Peter Bergman). Those siblings battled like little children until they eventually agreed to binding arbitration. Ashley lost, then took her ball and ran to Newman. Jack bit his lip and reddened his face for effect, but kept the CEO’s title.

Victor remains the King of Genoa City because he’s the best at balancing logic with emotions. Obviously that’s a deeply subjective assessment, but it’s one that can be vigorously argued in the court of soapy opinion.
His multilevel calculation in this instance involves the belief that Ashley and Vickie will produce great work because of their inherent need to one-up the other. Some may scoff, but Victor has used this approach in the past quite often. He didn’t become a billionaire by accident.

The ‘Black Knight’ also believes that Ashley is a unique resource that could help him to topple Jabot. Being a good business man, maybe Victor will allow Jack to wash the windows on his skyscraper at that point? Though, no safety harness will be provided if that out-of-work suit wants the job.
