The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Victoria Comes to Her Senses – J.T. Unhinged

Victoria (Amelia Heinle) has come to her senses on ‘The Young and the Restless’. She’s dumped J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) once and for all.

Informed daytime fans, which means all readers of this site, know that Luckinbill’s character is about to meet his final fate. While justified, the transformation of a once likeable character is part of a storyline that became very controversial among Y&R’s fans.

Devoted viewers recall Luckinbill’s first run with the cast. He arrived in 1999 and remained through 2010. His work was strong and, as the redux proved, possessed the acting chops that allowed J.T. to easily slip back into Genoa City’s main populous.

Strong, well-earned kudos to Luckinbill for choosing a storyline that he knew would turn J.T. into a bad guy. It’s obviously always easier to play the upbeat character, or hero. But this mini-arc, which began in December, unveiled the grown demon within Mr. Hellstrom. This alter ego seemingly erupted since he moved to D.C. with Mackenzie (then played by Clementine Ford).

Vickie uncharacteristically became subservient to J.T.’s wild mood swings. She seemed desperate to please her hoped-for spouse.

Y&R’s intent was to craft a storyline seen as topical within modern times. Executive producer and head writer Mal Young chose a lead male character to take a fall, which has often been done many times in the daytime world. Whether his choice reflects reality is something that no one person can truly know. Only real world couples know the realities of their relationships, or perceptions both during and potentially, after the fact.

J.T.’s pained existence appears to have developed through self-proclaimed failures in recent years. But his heart issue and use of medication, or unknown use of self-prescribed substances, along with an apparent undiagnosed mental health issue likely is (are) also part(s) of a composite, ugly picture.

Kudos to all involved who created and projected this engaging storyline, which wasn’t drug out. Four-plus months isn’t forever in daytime.

Sadly, Luckinbill’s time is ending with the cast. He and Heinle’s combined efforts were great soap.
