Summer (Hunter King) and Kyle (as then played by Lachlan Buchanan) were a decent pairing on ‘The Young and the Restless’. However, Michael Mealor’s version of this character told his former girlfriend that they are over. He’s taken charge and seems to have finally stopped engaging in manipulation games. But Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) also has her daughter’s number.
Dysfunction, that’s what Summer is offering. Sure, she returned to town from Atlanta, Georgia and revived Kyle’s interest. While Summer looked familiar, her personality changed.
Y&R’s revamp of King’s character has proven to be as intended, controversial. Along with that came a natural ending, where Kyle chose to go his own way. With that Fleetwood Mac classic tune queried and playing in the background, let’s move forward.

Summer’s sit-down with her dad, ‘New Nick’ (Joshua Morrow, who’s playing a ramped down version of his own character), provided hope. But the advice she received and followed through on, about telling Kyle what she was feeling, resulted in harshly realized, but deserved, consequences.
Kyle’s stance, that he’s done being used by Summer, represents more than words. He’s just met Lola (Sasha Calle), who instantly projects as all that Summer is not.
Next, is Phyllis. A requested lunch meeting doesn’t go as planned, as her deeply insecure daughter again lashes out at her. The obvious psychological underpinning that’s driving Summer’s attitude is steeped in a statement she made a handful of weeks ago.
Summer decided that she’d been taken advantage through the years and was too soft. In response, she decided to pursue so-called happiness by doing what she wants, no matter how anyone else feels.
Logic isn’t balancing Summer’s plan. A skewed view of reality has produced dire consequences, which includes having blackmailed her dad, betrayed her mother, and used the one man who actually said he loves her.
Hopefully, in time, Summer will revert to who she once was. Whether that happens while King is still a regular on Y&R remains to be seen, as the Daytime Emmy Award winner has already returned to recording her nighttime gig, ‘Life in Pieces’.
