The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Summer Brings Drama Back to Genoa City – Younger Demo Targeted

Summer (Hunter King) has a different look now that she’s back in Genoa City on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Longtime soap opera fans recognized her though and the summertime strategy that daytime has employed for many years.

School is about to let out this month in many areas and with that young people will be home. In the good old days, meaning pre-internet swooning, school-aged children watched soap operas far more often than they could during the school year. While this demographic, along with those people who are in their twenties and thirties don’t nearly represent the soap audience size they once did, there still are open-minded souls who enjoy partaking in this television tradition. Good fiction, in this instance specifically meaning serialized drama, is good fiction in any era.

King’s character was said to have left town two years ago. In reality, King’s get of a nighttime gig on CBS’ successful sitcom, ‘Life in Pieces’ enabled an extended sabbatical from Y&R. However, observant fans noticed that the two-time Daytime Emmy Award-winner’s appealing face was never stricken from the online cast. That implied Summer would be back some day and now she is.

Summer’s return obviously sync’s to the recast of Kyle (Michael Mealor). This pair was a romantic couple when Lachlan Buchanan last embodied the Kyle character. He went to New York to work for Jabot and recently returned in the form of Mealor.

‘Syle’ didn’t exactly have a warm reunion, as Kyle told Summer he had no intention of cleaning up her messes. Her subsequent arrest for apparently being in possession of a stolen Italian sports car served to affirm Kyle’s hesitation. While Summer is surely popular, she’s also a person who continues to attract trouble.

Y&R remains the number one scripted drama in daytime. It draws approximately half the live audience it once did, but streaming options do allow total approximated numbers to be extended a bit. So, four-plus million live viewers and a few million more time-shifters, along with all streaming viewers will be watching to see what Summer does this, well what else, summer in Genoa City.
