Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) is at a disadvantage on ‘The Young and the Restless’. He doesn’t know what the coverup crew, or to an even greater extent, what Y&R’s audience is aware of. However, his continued pursuit of a flawed theory likely won’t be purposeless.
Nick (Joshua Morrow) detests Detective Rosales right now. They’ve had a tumultuous relationship since Rey first dropped into Genoa City. Rubbed the wrong way, then momentary bro pals, followed by a full fallout. But the exchange Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) had with Rey at the GC Athletic Club preceded an event that could prove tragic, which is why Nick is irate.
The idea that Rey would be working this case is unthinkable, or so Nick thinks. But the GC Police Department, which is apparently under the remote leadership of Paul (Doug Davidson), has its lead officer assigned to this incident because Rey thinks there’s a connection between whoever burned down the stables at the Ranch and Nikki’s hit-and-run. Of course he’s wrong.
Reed (Tristan Lake Leabu) is transfixed with grief. Who wouldn’t be? This young man returns for Christmas break, one week early, intending to be there for his mom, Victoria (Amelia Heinle). Then, with his heart in the right place, he bad luck’s into an accident that might kill his grandmother. This after losing his father earlier in the year to circumstances that Rey still hasn’t figured out.

Y&R appears to be telegraphing converging plot points that will have Rey learn enough to break the case. So, he thinks Victor (Eric Braeden) killed J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) and that event is somehow connected to the fire at the Ranch and then Nikki’s run-down.
It’s not that Rey is seeing dots that don’t exist. The dots are there, but the first one starts with Nikki’s face after she accidentally knocks off J.T. Hellstrom. As to who is the arsonist, that’s a mystery this detective needs to solve because neither he, the coverup crew, or the audience know who that person is, assuming it’s just one character that lit the flame.
