The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Phyllis Rules Jabot – Abbot’s Serve As Subjects

The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Phyllis Rules Jabot - Abbot's Serve As SubjectsPhyllis (Gina Tognoni) is suddenly the most important person on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Fallout from that writing choice leaves the Abbott’s as her Jabot subjects.

Wait, Phyllis? Yes, that’s right, Phyllis, as in the Tognoni version, which was offered as a stark contrast to the original edition that Michelle Stafford first presented in the 1990’s.

Jack (Peter Bergman) thought he was making personal inroads with his ex-wife in recent months. She sought out his counsel regarding Billy (Jason Thompson), which was exactly the reverse scenario that initially developed in 2015, when Burgess Jenkins was playing the younger Abbott brother.

Billy is now working under the worst possible scenario. He broke with Phyllis moments after she accepted his marriage proposal at ‘Shick’s’ latest ill-fated remarriage attempt. Now, with Phyllis having stunningly been elected Jabot’s Chief Executive Officer, Billy is a second-rate citizen at his father’s company.

Kyle (Michael Mealor), well, he somehow still has Summer (Hunter King) on his side. ‘Syle’ is no more and actually hasn’t been anything since Lachlan Buchanan filled the role that Mealor was recast in this year.

As a result of Summer’s talk with her mom, Phyllis decided to give Kyle a meaningful assignment. That followed Kerry’s (Alice Hunter) verbal smack-down, of Kyle’s attempt to begin ferreting information out of her.

Flashing back years, Phyllis couldn’t become Jabot’s CEO due to the blood-Abbott clause. Jack invented that legal angle to block her from any attempted power-grab, which happened during their marital years. He also admitted to Ashley (Eileen Davidson) that she was a target of its intent.

To think that the recent removal of the blood-Abbott clause would result in Phyllis being elected CEO is a head-scratcher. How about Lauren (Tracey Bregman) instead? Sure, she has the background to run the company and is a major business partner. Having a new character recruited to further John’s (Jerry Douglas) legacy would have also made sense. But Phyllis?

The natural response of the Abbott’s and hardcore viewers is being tested, as the soapy envelope of believability is pushed. Self-imposed pressure is on Y&R to provide Tognoni (a consistently solid and likable actor) with strong scripts to make this work.
