Why did Vickie (Amelia Heinle), Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Sharon (Sharon Case) listen to Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) on ‘The Young and the Restless’? Doing so means that this unlikely quartet has simply delayed the consequences of their actions, rather than avoiding them.
Of course, Y&R wrote the Phyllis character to dominance in order to create the storyline it wanted to tell. Is it believable to think that, even when under incredible duress, Vickie, Nikki, and Sharon would follow Phyllis’ advice? Not really.
Suspending disbelief, a term believed to be invented by Christian poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, allows daytime fans to accept what they’ve been given. So, the unlikely foursome that is ‘PVNS’ is now willingly covering up the death of J.T. Hellstrom (Thad Luckinbill).
Nikki seems primed to eventually be arrested and sent to the big house. Vickie, Sharon and their ringleader, Phyllis, are accomplices after the fact and must to face legal justice. The idea that four major characters will all be facing criminal convictions and significant jail time is incredible but would prove memorable if this seeming projection plays out.
Phyllis’ logic, that Nikki would have been painted as the vengeful spouse, was plausible, but hardly certain. Lying to Paul (Doug Davidson), who actually entered the crime scene while J.T.’s supposedly lifeless body was upstairs, served to compound the soup ‘PVNS’ jumped into.
Fretting wouldn’t fully end if J.T. somehow revives himself after he’s thrown into a shallow grave. Crimes would have still been committed. But if Luckinbill’s character was truly offed and J.T. was then disposed of, the ladies in question are in trouble. Any resolution also won’t flow smoothly, either.

All kudos is offered to the collaborative efforts involving each actor and off-screen talent who, in any way, helped to create this serious storyline. The topics invoked, the twists along the end of J.T.’s path and now, the fallout is all fully compelling.
