What is summer on ‘The Young and the Restless’ without a Newman group battle? Of course the same could be said for the other three seasons of the year, where this non-family is concerned, within this fictional Wisconsin town known as Genoa City.
Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Vickie (Amelia Heinle) were stunned to learn that Nick (Joshua Morrow) was pretending to be J.T. (Thad Luckinbill). Their emotional outburst was natural, but also, yet again, served to enable Victor (Eric Braeden).
The head of the Newman group, a legally licensed corporation since the 1980’s, but not actually a functioning family, has long gotten away with his many diabolical acts. Nick sought to bring consequences to Victor and he did just that.

Considering the many past doppelganger, look-a-like, or what-have-you schemes that Victor has initiated, the sight of Nick pulling off the J.T. mask and wig was incredible. All who only cite Nick’s dastardly desire in perpetrating that ruse are either purposely overlooking Victor’s nearly four-decade history on this show, or are unaware of reality.
Nikki believes she killed J.T., which is something she’s kept from Nick and Victor. Vickie believes that her almost again husband is lying in the ground at Chancellor Park. However, just a few days ago both ladies thought that man was resurrected and had returned for revenge.
It’s understandable that Nick’s mother and sister would be shocked to learn that he was gaslighting Victor and thus, themselves. But that reaction allows Victor to escape shared responsibility for how everyone arrived at this point, which is exactly why Nick felt justified in becoming J.T.

Due to all past storylines, this group of people will almost surely never be one big happy family. Instead, they appeared destined to repeat dysfunctional patterns. Nick’s efforts were an attempt to stop that cycle. How effective his end result will be is unknown.
Nick cryptically told Victor that other efforts are already underway to further handle the ‘Moustache’. Considering what Morrow’s character has done to-date, intriguing episodes surely will be presented to Y&R’s loyal audience.
