It was meaningful to see Sharon Case (Sharon), Joshua Morrow (Nick) and Camryn Grimes (Cassie before she became Mariah) together on ‘The Young and the Restless’. It was hardly the first time that these three iconic cast members were reunited. But the overlay of emotions in this particular set of scenes provided powerful, combined images and possibly a wink at the future.
Sharon was rendered unconscious by the blow Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) applied to her head with a stainless steel coffee pot. Thankfully Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) happened by Crimson Lights, where Cassie (Grimes’ initial Y&R character) once spent many days with her mom and adopted dad, found her former daughter-in-law and called the police.

A subsequent Genoa City Memorial Hospital scene evoked memories of the historical moment when Sharon and Nick said goodbye to their daughter. Always ranking as one of, if not the most controversial (and likely wrong choices) in show history, Cassie’s death in a hospital bed shocked the 2005 daytime audience. Reverberations endured to such a degree that Grimes was eventually rehired full-time, so she could perform past angelic reappearances.
Mariah expressed, in a deeper way than she ever has before, how much she loves her mom. That term hasn’t often been used by Miss Copeland, the identical twin Sharon never knew she had until 2014.
As devoted Y&R viewers recall, Victor’s (Eric Braeden) fortuitous run-in with Mariah led to him hiring her to gaslight Sharon. The ‘Moustache’ did that to pull a secret out of Sharon’s subconscious. More importantly, the Cassie-Mariah connection was learned and revealed.

Digitally skip back to modern day and Nick’s grip of his ex-wife’s hand, while Mariah tearfully stood over them. This scene was beautifully crafted and presented to Y&R’s viewers. Sharon’s awakening resulting from her awareness of two loved ones being by her bedside, as she said.
It’s very intriguing that executive producer and head writer Mal Young has authorized his writer’s room to steer Sharon, Nick and Mariah together at this point in the plot line. Egan’s final scenes are playing out and Chelsea will soon be gone. So the seemingly increasing likelihood of ‘Shick’ being reborn might actually be happening.
