Nick (Joshua Morrow) truly believes that he’s countering his father on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Instead, he’s becoming just like Victor (Eric Braeden). The latest bit of evidence confirming ‘New Nick’s’ move to the dark side came this week when he intended to bribe Summer (Hunter King).
‘Phick’ was yesterday, or so both halves and all of Genoa City, including Billy (Jason Thompson) and Sharon (Sharon Case), thought. But no, Nick and Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) recently reconnected, which Summer just determined.
Kyle (Michael Mealor) and his on-again, off-again girlfriend Summer thought that their parents were reestablishing a bond. It did look like Jack (Peter Bergman) was the man Phyllis was confiding in as Billy took his latest bender. Phyllis’ recent text message history appeared to prove that point.

However, Summer later became suspicious when she watched the awkward interplay between her parents at the cottage. She later confirmed that yes, ‘Phick’ had revived, in a way.
Phyllis is furious at her daughter. Playing off the realization when King’s character returned, Phyllis also realizes that Summer is behaving exactly as she did years ago. Michelle Stafford embodied the role then, so we’re not sure how Tognoni’s version has that knowledge (cheeky recast joke implied).
Nick’s willingness to bribe Summer to keep quiet about what she knows is the opposite of what ‘Good Nick’ would have done. While the original and always, until now, version of Nick did wrong in the past, he was conflicted about his various acts, except some that involved his dad. Then, Nick would try to make amends. His conscience has now willfully been suppressed.
Dark Horse is Nick’s aim at reestablishing the type of family company Victor initially intended to create. But Nick believes that his dad broke from that positive path long ago and is now beyond redemption.
So, Nick is intent on rebranding all things Newman. As those around him and all Y&R viewers have seen, the rise of ‘New Nick’ includes bizarre behavior, as was seen via the J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) ruse, controlling acts, and attempts at manipulation, as Summer has learned.
