The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Lily Tries To Bond with Sam – Expanded Lane Enables Renewed Ashby Family

‘Lane’ has been and thankfully remains a couple on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Lily’s (Christel Khalil) compassion allowed Cane’s (Daniel Goddard) hope of restoring his family to be recently realized. Now, as the Ashby’s life flows forward he needs to remain patient with his wife’s seemingly evolving attitude.

Every caring person would have been devastated by what took place in Tokyo with Juliet (Laur Allen). But Lily was able to handle that betrayal and remained supportive of her husband during that point in the arc. However, Cane’s later sabotage of Billy’s (Jason Thompson) DARE commercial shoot, which represented Lily’s return to modeling, proved to be too much.

As Y&R fans recall, Jesse (Max Adler) blackmailed Cane. Goddard’s character then took nearly all of the twins’ school funds and paid him off. Billy and Vickie (Amelia Heinle) triggered that reveal, which nearly ended the Ashby’s marriage.

Paris then proved to be the touchstone location where Lily and Cane could talk everything out and reach a resolution. Cane’s bold decision to fly to France was ironically spurned by a conversation with Billy, who encouraged his step-brother to press harder with reconciliation plans.

Lily’s decision to allow Cane to move back home obviously represents a major advancement in this couple’s healing process. However, as fans and connected characters have seen, Lily is having trouble embracing Sam. Juliet is resurrected whenever Cane’s newborn is mentioned, let alone seen.

Love has persisted, which in and of itself allows hope to reign. Lily has honestly acknowledged that the connection she has with Cane never died. Cane told his wife the same when they were in Europe.

One lead question exists now that the original four members of this family have physically reformed. Will Lily come to see the fifth Ashby, Sam, as her son? That innocent young man needs a mother and would surely benefit by having Mrs. Ashby raise him. On that point, Cane must remain fully attuned to Lily’s feelings and pray that she develops this hope-for bond.
