Christel Khalil (Lily) voluntarily opted to take a recurring contract on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Fans knew from the moment that factual news was released that Mrs. Ashby wouldn’t be seen nearly as often in Genoa City. Now, due to trouble Lily has experienced at Walworth she’s about to shift jails.
The implication is that there could be less scenes involving Cane (Daniel Goddard), Mattie (Lexie Stevenson), Charlie (Noah Alexander Gerry), Neil (Kristoff St. John), and Nate (Brooks Darnell) due to Lily’s relocation, as her family won’t be able to visit her as frequently.
Lily has long been a central figure within the Winters and Ashby families. Neil’s child with Dru (played by the great Victoria Rowell) expanded that power couple’s story a long time ago. Khalil was cast as the SORAS’d edition of their daughter (then a teenager) in 2002.
‘Lane’s’ romance proved epic, including numerous adventures, dramatics, breakups, and revivals. Along the way Khalil and Goddard demonstrated consistent chemistry that underscored a key entertainment point. The work of strong actors is enhanced through collaborative efforts.

Daytime fans are discerning. They will reject characters, or pairings that aren’t well written. There are middling duo’s, that are neither compelling, or detested. But there are also combinations that, like life, are destined. Such was the story with Lily and Cane.
Hopefully, in addition to Goddard, Stevenson and Gerry continue to be routinely seen on-screen. The Ashby twins were SORAS’d last year, as serious storylines involving their parents, driven by the Juliet (Laur Allen) arc, were implemented.
Neil has taken Nate, Lily’s cousin, under his wing. These characters have their own storyline paths and shouldn’t be overly affected by Khalil’s reduced presence.
Khalil advised that Y&R did want to renew her regular contract. Having class and media savvy, she surely provided that information in order to counter anticipated rumors that would be invented about her status, her on- and off-screen colleagues, and the company that is her employer.

Lily will still be seen, occasionally, moving forward. In the meantime Khalil will be investing more time with her family and exploring other career opportunities. Y&R fans wish her well.
