The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Lily Seen Less – Will Cane Get A New Love Interest?

Readers of this comprehensive soap site know that Christel Khalil (Lily) voluntarily dropped to recurring status on ‘The Young and the Restless’. If one was lacking that insider’s knowledge it would be hard to tell that Khalil is no longer a regular on the show. As at least the next ten months play out, Mrs. Ashby won’t be seen nearly as much, which will enable Cane (Daniel Goddard) to cross a new lane.

Yes, the last word in the above paragraph winked at Lily and Cane’s relationship, which was fondly nicknamed ‘Lane’ by adoring fans. Those supporters are already dealing with scene withdrawal, as the already sporadic prison visits are now being met by Lily’s refusal to see her husband.

Mrs. Ashby’s personality has turned down in recent weeks. She hasn’t been adjusting to life behind bars all that well. Hardened, but not cynical, Lily wants to focus on what she can do in her newly imposed world and is not interested in her family wearing smiley faces when they appear in the suffocating, bland visitor’s room at Walworth.

Something has to change with Khalil’s voluntarily drop to recurring status and Goddard remaining as a regular. Either Cane will become a supportive persona, similar to his father-in-law Neil (Kristoff St. John), Mr. Ashby will explore new adventures on his own, or potentially find a new lane with another love. There’s that couple’s nickname reference again.

The loss of Mishael Morgan (Hilary) in the summer and Khalil’s reduced screen time have served to make Devon (Bryton James) and Cane individual characters, verses the coupled men viewers had grown used to seeing through ‘Hevon’ and ‘Lane’. In Cane’s case, he’ll become the twins advice-giver unless he’s written into standalone dramas.

Here’s hoping that Khalil returns to regular status next fall and that Goddard remains a regular presence on Y&R in the meantime. Like his on-screen wife, he is a solid part of this deep cast. Ideally, ‘Lane’ also won’t be split along the way.
