‘Lane’ has just achieved peace. Lily and Cane (Daniel Goddard) resolved their marital problems and have healed their marriage. The reformed Ashby family now includes Sam, who is the late Juliet’s (Laur Allen) son.
Considering all that it took to make the last paragraph a reality, viewers would think that Lily would avoid involving herself in anyone’s issues. But she doesn’t see it that way. Mrs. Ashby wants to prevent Devon from putting his life in jeopardy by having a child with Hilary.
As Y&R viewers recall, Miss Curtis encouraged Juliet to pursue a bogus claim against Cane, which served to end his career at Brash and Sassy. More importantly, the entire ‘Jane’ incident, including the Tokyo matter, nearly eviscerated ‘Lane’.
It could be argued that Lily is acting selflessly in wanting to protect her brother. Those who are Hilary fans, or believers in individual rights overriding other’s lives might loudly and repeatedly claim that Lily is interfering in a situation that doesn’t involve her.

Well, Devon is family and that matters deeply. Hilary is purely the woman he used to be married to. She’s also the person who tried to frame Cane when she first arrived in Wisconsin. Hilary is also the person who lambasted Neil (Kristoff St. John) because she believed he’d left her mother for dead, which he hadn’t. She also married him before Devon.
Yes, Lily does need to stop Hilary. But she’ll need to pursue creative efforts in that regard now that Devon has said he’s not interested in his sister’s opinion.
Devon is certainly vulnerable to having his life disrupted by Hilary again. However, choosing to buy GC Buzz purposely established a business link between he and his former wife. His decision to create a personal connection with Hilary, by having a child with her, will then establish a permanent link with the once Mrs. Hamilton.
Whether Lily realizes it or not, Devon is acting with his own free will. Hilary hasn’t forced him to do anything. The human heart wants what it wants and in this soapy situation, the love that still exists between two people (‘Hevon’) is actually what matters.
