Reed (Tristan Lake Leabu) needs his father, as do the two children Mackenzie (Clementine Ford) is caring for on her own in the nation’s capital. Genoa City fans would be fine with ‘Mack’ and the kids moving back to Wisconsin. If that isn’t in Y&R’s plans, then the best on-screen development would allow Luckinbill’s character to stick around indefinitely.
Hardcore viewers know that before ‘Villy’, ‘JTV’ ruled. Considering that Billy (Jason Thompson) made his choice in Phyllis (Gina Tognoni), Vickie naturally gave into the romantic pull that J.T.’s return to town created.
Luckinbill advised, upon his surprise, announced return to the cast that his contract called for a storyline that would last until February, or March of this year, but could go longer. It’s unknown whether Y&R wants this actor’s time frame to remain uncertain, or it’s instructed Luckinbill to be understandably coy. It could also be that Y&R and Luckinbill will make a mutual decision as the new year plays out.
Intrigue and interest would be lessened by openly stating how long J.T. will be staying in Genoa City. By offering doubt, whether intended, or not, the audience remains uncertain about ‘J.T’.s. and ‘JTV’s’ longterm outlook, even incorporating the rumored return of Travis (Michael Roark) into the plot line mix. That’s smart in whatever instance, as needlessly revealing an end-date would defeat the intent of this form of serialized entertainment.
Limited-run actor engagements, like limited-run television series revivals (think ‘X-Files’ and other currently returned shows), enable old-school fans to revisit past connections. Watching Heinle and Luckinbill work together again has been a pleasure and is, at least, a lesson in civility as well.

Savvy soap fans know that these actors were married in real life, had children, but divorced last year. Their obviously amicable current professional reconnection winks at the possibility of a revived real life relationship. Yes, all good-hearted supporters can hope for ‘JTV’s’ persistence and the Luckinbill’s revival.
