The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Jack’s Shocking Clue – Phillip Chancellor His Father?

Jack (Peter Bergman) simply wants to know who his father is on ‘The Young and the Restless’. That statement would have seemed preposterous if it was made before Dina’s (Marla Adams) apparent admission during one of Abby’s (Melissa Ordway) sit-down interview sessions. But now it’s become the pressing cause of Jack Whoever’s life.

Paternity is often challenged on soap operas. Maternity, not as much. Though maybe a storyline switch is coming.

John Abbott (Jerry Douglas) was long thought to be Jack’s dad. Why would anyone think otherwise, especially considering that Ashley (Eileen Davidson) experienced her own paternity reveal in the mid-1980’s?

The problem with Dina’s admission is that she hasn’t been able to follow through with provable facts. Adams’ portrayal of a character with Alzheimer’s is, without a doubt, one of the best daytime performances (not just Y&R efforts) in many, many years. All who watched her breathtaking work believe that she was worthy of the Daytime Emmy Award in the Supporting Actress category, rather than just having received a nomination. Hopefully next year’s streamed ceremony allows Adams’ acceptance speech to be seen.

So, Jack went off the rails for a few weeks, pulled himself together and is now thinking logically. What he needs is a definitive answer as to who his supposed other father was, or is. And the tense is important, as the presumed dad of Jack could potentially still be living.

The evergreen performances of Bergman must be acknowledged at this point. The longtime Y&R stalwart assumed the role that was initially played by the late Terry Lester (1984-1989) will mark his 30-year milestone next year. Hard to imagine it’s been that long ‘Jackie’.

Neil’s (Kristoff St. John) discovery of Dina’s handwritten journals nearly revealed a name. But further clues unearthed on Father’s Day weekend will help Jack take steps toward his totally unexpected paternity answer.

Y&R appears to be crafting an arc that may keep the legacy of Jack intact, while at the same time taking various characters and the audience on a spring-summer adventure. Good, possibly great soap is therefore unfolding in daytime.
