Jack (Peter Bergman) took a mini-summer vacation on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Instead of traveling to the south of France, he simply shelved the search for his presumed genetic dad. But now that September has arrived, he’s regained interest in what could be a major character backstory switch.
Longtime Y&R fans weren’t overly aghast by Dina’s (Marla Adams) revelation that played out months ago. She admitted a surprising, apparent truth to Abby (Melissa Ordway) during a life story digital recording session. The reveal was that John (Jerry Douglas) wasn’t Jack’s biological father. Whoa! What?
Many fans believed that the remarkably well done Alzheimer’s storyline had simply generated a plot point that would be soon disproved. But instead of Jack’s DNA being tested by Abby’s mother, Ashley (Eileen Davidson), against some remnant of John’s, she used Traci’s (Beth Maitland) sample.
Later, after Jack learned of the above, he tested his sample against Billy’s (Jason Thompson). Both results were said to prove that Jack wasn’t related to either person. That wasn’t steeped in logic then, or now.

No one seemed to think to test Traci’s sample against Billy’s, which would have at least maintained the ruse that nothing of John’s DNA exists anywhere, or that his body couldn’t be exhumed and then an obtained sample tested. All of the explained, restrained plot kept the Jack isn’t an Abbott storyline going.
Returning to the most recent piece of evidence found, an old country club photo, Jack has been written back to the unresolved case. Hopefully he hires a private detective, or some other professional, and doesn’t continue to believe he and Kyle (Michael Mealor) can handle this serious issue on their own.
It’s no longer impossible to believe that the Abbott name will be stripped from Bergman’s legacy character. However, executive producer and head writer Mal Young previously said that fans should remain patient, which appeared to imply that all will be restored, somehow, for the once and always (?) Jack Abbott.
As always, more detailed spoilers and a full collection of pictures for the week in question will appear here on Soap Opera Spy, where there will be more clues and hints over exactly what’s going on.
