None of the characters on ‘The Young and the Restless’ that are about to be mentioned are actually Abbott’s, except Billy (Jason Thompson). But the headline to this feature that includes John’s (Jerry Douglas) last name is technically accurate. And now Jack’s (Peter Bergman) release from prison will put his son in the crosshairs.
Kyle (Michael Mealor) returned to Genoa City recently. He’s been withholding some type of odd grudge against his father, who’s treated him with nothing but unconditional love for years. Yes, there were issues in the past. But nothing in recent years that would have caused this recast character to have colluded with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden).
Proven collusion means actually gaining hard evidence that someone did something nefarious with another entity. Rumor, innuendo, concocted mumbo-jumbo that Jack would have believed about an alliance between Kyle and the evil empire, Victor, isn’t just in the elder Abbott’s mind. No, Jack gained physical and then digital evidence when he stole Victor’s backup hard drive while at the Ranch a few weeks ago.
Okay, he shouldn’t have done that. But Jack paid a heavy price as Paul (Doug Davidson) understandably concluded that Bergman’s character somehow rendered Victor unconscious along the way to taking said evidence. Jack knows he shouldn’t have done it, but did learn something valuable. Kyle was in touch with Victor via email since last year. But why?

Kyle’s quick power-grab at Jabot appears to be part of some plan he and Victor developed. They were either planning to sink Jabot and then have Newman Enterprises take it over, simply mess with the company Jack runs or put it out of business. Other scenarios are possible, but some business element made this more than just personal.
Jack’s situation has actually allowed him to repair his relationship with Ashley (Eileen Davidson). She’s learned that, like herself, John’s not an Abbott, which makes Kyle’s threat dangerous in an unexpected way.
If Kyle learns that his dad isn’t a blood Abbott he’ll then be armed to tell Victor, who’s moving toward a health revival. Ashley needs to clue Jack and Billy into the paternity issue and then combine forces to neutralize Kyle.
