Jack (Peter Bergman) recently lost control of two important elements in his life on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Dina (Marla Adams) crossed over to the ravages of Alzheimer’s and Ashley (Eileen Davidson) broke family ties by agreeing to work for Newman Enterprises. However, the peace Jack seeks could be attained if he’s able to realize love in this still new year.
An interesting exchange took place at the Genoa City Athletic Club. Victor (Eric Braeden) asked Jack how his mother was doing. It wasn’t a snarky question, but a sincere request for information about a topic the ‘Moustache’ knew was important. Jack replied by saying that Dina was doing well in Paris, but that her good and bad days varied.
Jack made a statement to Victor as well. As with Victor’s question, Jack’s comment was sincere. He told the man he’s often referred to as the ‘Black Knight’ to treat his sister well. There was no venom offered, which could be indicative of Jack’s evolving view of the world.
The Jabot family battle took a personal toll on Jack, as it did on his sister. Abby’s (Melissa Ordway) wise idea, to have her grandmother move back to Paris, offered a needed respite for Jack and Ashley. They were equally worn down by the type of response that was needed to handle Dina and her mad companion, Graham (Max Shippee).
Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) is long gone. She’s genuinely committed to Billy (Jason Thompson), which means that ‘Phack’ is highly unlikely to reunite anytime soon, if ever. So Jack remains alone and is past cavorting with Gloria (Judith Chapman) as well.
Jack, like many past married men, wants another woman to help complete his life. He would also complete the world of whoever that woman becomes as well. That second point needed to be said, as both halves of any balanced relationship have full worth.

Here’s hoping that executive producer and head writer Mal Young writes Bergman’s character toward happiness. Hardcore viewers know that many of Jack’s past love interests, excluding Phyllis, have led to bizarre disaster. So the invention of a new character who’s stable would be a nice plot change for Mr. Abbott. Y&R should allow Jack’s personal life to advance, which would also serve to sharpen his business focus as well.
