J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) revisited the past again on ‘The Young and the Restless’. His doing so can be viewed through at least two interpretive lenses. Might a series of ongoing flashbacks simply be serving as a memory refresher for devoted viewers and an introduction of this character for newer fans, or is Luckinbill’s alter ego preparing to meet his maker?

Traci (Beth Maitland) became the latest Genoa City resident to discuss the old days with J.T. They spoke fondly of Colleen (as portrayed by Lyndsy Fonseca during the time period that was shown). Tammin Sursok assumed the role by the time Colleen died, a tragic event which still impacts J.T. in modern times.
Maitland and Luckinbill’s scenes offered another poke at savvy viewer’s minds. It feels as though Y&R is presenting an extended farewell for J.T., though that could be a head-fake.
Vickie (Amelia Heinle) became aware of J.T.’s need for prescription medicine a few weeks ago. His usage relates to an electrocution incident, as was shown via a flashback.
The former Mrs. Hellstrom has experienced J.T.’s oddly quixotic personality since her former husband returned to town. He’s been sincere in wanting to get back together, but exhibits impulsive behavior when things don’t go his way. That point makes him a different than Vickie expected and doesn’t imply that a longterm relationship can be maintained.
Luckinbill was open when he returned to Y&R late last year. He said that J.T.’s storyline could last through February, March, or longer depending upon how everything flowed.
Solid actors, especially those who have extended runs in daytime, succeed due to their ability to take various scripts, often from different writing teams, and create a character with depth. J.T. was that person and remains so now. He easily meshed with GC’s personalities, both old and new, upon his return in December. Luckinbill’s acting range is top notch.

Kudos to executive producer and head writer Mal Young and his team for making this revival happen and for producing a compelling return storyline. Here’s hoping Luckinbill stays indefinitely, or if a short stay is all that’s planned, that J.T. isn’t killed off.
