Devon (Bryton James) can cite chapter and verse from his Book of Hilary (Mishael Morgan) on ‘The Young and the Restless’. But all involved parties know that Hilary (Mishael Morgan), not Lily (Christel Khalil), was almost always the provocateur.
The above declarative statement is aimed not only at the events that led into the tragic car crash that took Hilary’s life and that of ‘Hevon’s’ unborn baby, but also at the constant incoming Lily and her family endured since Ann Turner descended upon Genoa City in 2013.
Mr. Hamilton is so grief-stricken that he’s become an an all-out emotionalist. Nate’s (Brooks Darnell) attempts to inject logic into Devon’s brain have proven futile.

The fully unjustified, so-called victim’s statement Devon offered during Lily’s sentencing hearing was outrageous. Even Shauna (Camryn Hamm) came around, seemingly with Devon’s blessing.
Shauna’s heartfelt plea to the judge for leniency represented a combination of wisdom and courage. In contrast, Lily’s adoptive brother has blocked out the sunshine that the Winters’ family brought to his life, without which he never would have met the love of his life.
Hilary did not know before her death that Lily ran the red light. She, like Lily, believed that the truck driver was at fault. It feels as though Devon is channeling exactly how Hilary would have reacted if she’d lived, or lived long enough to be present at Lily’s court date.
Just as Hilary was unjustified in targeting Neil (Kristoff St. John) for her mother’s death and Cane (Daniel Goddard), as part of the overall Winters’ family revenge plan, so too is Devon unjustified in holding Lily fully responsible.
At most, Lily shares blame with Hilary for being a distracted driver. Hilary willfully entered Lily’s vehicle and then disregarded everyone’s safety by continuing the argument that began in ‘Hevon’s’ penthouse.
Neil and Dru (Victoria Rowell) adopted Devon in the mid-2000’s. Lily has considered him like blood since then. No tragedy, including this one, gives Devon the right to think of his sister as he does and make such horrid public pronouncements about her to the sentencing judge.
