Devon’s (Bryton James) antidote for Hilary’s (Mishael Morgan) morning sickness on ‘The Young and the Restless’ was flying in his personal jet. That isn’t a typical antidote to nausea. But such is soap.
Shauna (Camryn Hamm) was more than glad to see ‘Hevon’ off. She sent Charlie (Noah Alexander Gerry) a text moments after the penthouse door shut. Whether ‘Sharlie’ will get into trouble remains to be seen, but Neil (Kristoff St. John) is across the hall in ‘Chadam’s’ and ‘Chick’s’ old penthouse. So hopefully all goes well while Devon and Hilary are in St. Croix.
Mariah (Camryn Grimes) has been asked to mine the digital store while Hilary is gone. She’ll only be needed as the solo host for one GC Buzz episode, which Hilary thinks is too much.
One of the delightful pairings in Genoa City is the Hilary-Mariah entangle. Their banter allows tenured fans to recall the back-and-forth between Jill (Jess Walton) and Esther (Kate Linder), which should be seen again soon when Walton returns to her recurring role.
Of course Y&R fans are aware that a countdown has begun regarding Morgan’s remaining time on the show. The actor announced her voluntary departure from the cast, ending what will be a five-year run. The exact date of her last episode is not yet known.
‘Hevon’ clearly became and now, in its revival, is again one of this soap’s most endearing and entertaining couples. Both excellent actors have taken the pages they’ve been given and continue to create truly memorable work.
Y&R has a tough decision to make. Will it recast the Hilary character, or write her off?
Recasting would surely be controversial, as whatever actor replaces Morgan wouldn’t be given a fair shake by a segment of the audience. However, recasts can work if a solid choice is made and the existing character is taken in a fresh direction so as not to mimic what existed.

Writing off Hilary would open the door to Morgan’s implied return, at some point. Killing off Hilary could always be reversed and would provide certain dramatic opportunities that may, or may not be desired.
With whatever choice is made, devoted viewers and especially ‘Hevon’ fans will savor Morgan’s final bows during the next, likely handful of months.
