The Young and the Restless (YR) Spoilers: Eric Braeden Lengthens Y&R Canon – Victor’s Facial Expressions Were Incredible

Victor (Eric Braeden) was crying while Nick (Joshua Morrow) was at his bedside on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Seeing this particular character in a uniquely vulnerable position was as unsettling as it was affirming. All fair-minded observers also know that Braeden’s recent performances are surely Emmy-worthy.

This feature isn’t intended to push those who don’t like the Victor character off their rigid stance. Some personality types marry themselves to an emotional belief, which is why they often, if not always, refuse to acknowledge factual evidence that supports contrary conclusions.

Anyone who has followed the nearly 40-year arc of Braeden’s daytime career has seen his range in the past. As the lead character, Victor became the anti-hero. That established battle lines within the audience, as some people don’t want to support those who pursue dastardly deeds. Others simply fail to recognize that surviving in the soap world for as long as Braeden has is an unquestionably great accomplishment.

J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) got the best of Victor in a fight. That point alone was amazing, as the ‘Black Knight’ almost always proved victorious in any skirmish, especially those that were physical. But all people are human, including the great Victor Newman.

To think that Victor would be hospitalized and then later suffer a mini-stroke due to J.T.’s subsequent actions is remarkable. This highly-controversial storyline enabled Luckinbill’s seeming permanent exit from the cast (at least as for this character) and has allowed Braeden to arguably deliver his most heart-breaking scenes since Victor confronted his father, Albert (played by the late, great George Kennedy). Morrow played a part in those indelible scenes as well.

The manner in which Braeden used facial expressions to allow Victor to express various emotions, which ranged from sadness to fright, to Nick was fully moving. Those moments easily took their place in Braeden’s Y&R cannon. When considering all previous efforts and the enduring nature of his run, the actor’s astounding work may prove Emmy-worthy when next year’s awards are given.
